Banking Fraud

Banking fraud occurs when criminals use deception, stolen credentials, or unauthorised access to obtain money from a person’s bank account or financial instruments. Fraudsters often impersonate bank officials, customer-care representatives, government authorities, or other trusted entities to manipulate victims.

Common forms include unauthorised bank transfers, phishing, fake KYC updates, OTP scams, card fraud, fake customer-care scams, remote-access fraud, and fraudulent net-banking transactions.

🚩 Common Warning Signs

  • Someone asks for your OTP, PIN, CVV, password, or UPI PIN.
  • You receive an unexpected message asking you to update KYC through a link.
  • A caller creates urgency by claiming your account will be blocked.
  • You are asked to install a remote-access application.
  • A “bank representative” asks you to transfer money to a different account.
  • You receive a call offering a fake refund or cashback.

🛡️ Stay Safe

Never share your OTP, PIN, CVV, password, or UPI PIN with anyone. Banks and legitimate financial institutions do not require you to disclose such confidential credentials. Always contact your bank using the official number or website, not a number provided in a suspicious message or call.

If you notice an unauthorised transaction, act immediately. Contact your bank, report financial cyber fraud through 1930, and preserve transaction records, messages, screenshots, and other relevant evidence.

Remember: Your bank will never ask you to share your OTP or PIN. When in doubt, stop, verify, and report.
