🚨 Immediate Action Required

The first hour after a cyber fraud is often the most critical period for preventing further loss and improving the chances of tracing or freezing funds. Act immediately and follow the steps below.

1. Call 1930 Immediately

Contact the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 without delay.

Provide:

  • Transaction details
  • Amount lost
  • Date and time of the transaction
  • Bank account details
  • UPI ID (if applicable)

Keep a record of the complaint reference number.

2. Contact Your Bank Immediately

Call your bank’s customer care or fraud helpline.

Request that:

  • The transaction be reported as fraudulent.
  • Beneficiary accounts be identified and frozen where possible.
  • A complaint reference number be generated.

Do not wait for a response from the fraudster before contacting your bank.

3. Stop Further Communication

If you are still in contact with the suspected fraudster:

  • Do not transfer any additional money.
  • Do not share OTPs, passwords, or banking information.
  • Do not install any software or applications.
  • Do not follow further instructions from the caller or sender.

4. Preserve Evidence

Immediately save:

✓ Screenshots

✓ Transaction IDs

✓ SMS messages

✓ WhatsApp chats

✓ Call logs

✓ Emails

✓ UPI IDs

✓ Account numbers

✓ Social media profiles

Do not delete conversations or messages.

5. Secure Your Accounts

If credentials may have been compromised:

  • Change passwords immediately.
  • Enable two-factor authentication.
  • Review linked devices and active sessions.
  • Contact your bank if card details or internet banking credentials were shared.

6. File an Online Complaint

Submit a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal as soon as possible.

Ensure that all transaction details and evidence are uploaded accurately.

Remember

Do not panic. Do not make additional payments. Do not negotiate with the fraudster. Focus on reporting the incident quickly, preserving evidence, and securing your accounts. The actions taken within the first hour can significantly affect the outcome of the case.
