🚨 I SHARED MY OTP

Don’t panic—but act immediately. An OTP can be used to authorise a login, transaction, password reset, or other sensitive action depending on what it was generated for.

⚡ DO THIS NOW

1️⃣ Contact your bank immediately 🏦
If the OTP was related to your bank, card, UPI, or payment account, call the bank using the official number and tell them you disclosed an OTP to a suspected fraudster.

Ask them to secure the account and check for any unauthorised transactions or changes.

2️⃣ Check your accounts 💳

Look immediately for:

  • Unauthorised transactions
  • New beneficiaries
  • UPI mandates/autopay instructions
  • Password-reset alerts
  • Unknown login/device alerts
  • Changes to your registered mobile number or email

3️⃣ Change your credentials 🔐

If the OTP was used for an account login or password reset:

  • Change the password immediately.
  • Sign out of unknown devices/sessions.
  • Enable two-factor authentication.
  • Change any other account where you reused the same password.

4️⃣ If your UPI may be affected

Contact your bank/payment provider immediately and secure your UPI access. Never share your UPI PIN, even if someone claims to be from your bank, police, RBI, or a payment company.

5️⃣ If money has been lost 🚨

Call 1930 immediately and report the financial cyber fraud through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

6️⃣ Preserve evidence 📸

Save:

  • The SMS containing the OTP
  • Screenshots
  • Caller’s phone number
  • WhatsApp/SMS/email conversations
  • Transaction alerts
  • Bank complaint/reference number
  • Any suspicious links

❌ DO NOT

🚫 Share another OTP
🚫 Share your UPI PIN, CVV or password
🚫 Approve another transaction to “reverse” the fraud
🚫 Install remote-access software
🚫 Transfer money to a supposed “safe account”
🚫 Trust someone who calls claiming they can recover your money for a fee

⚠️ IMPORTANT

Sharing an OTP does not necessarily mean that money has been stolen. The risk depends on what the OTP was generated for and whether the scammer was able to use it successfully.

STOP → SECURE → CHECK → REPORT

🔐 An OTP is for you—not for anyone calling you.
