🚨 My UPI Account Was Compromised

If you believe your UPI account, UPI PIN, linked bank account, or UPI app has been compromised, act immediately. Do not wait to see whether money is actually withdrawn.

⚡ ACT NOW

1. Contact your bank immediately 🏦
Ask the bank to secure your account/UPI facility and report any unauthorised transactions. Follow the bank’s instructions regarding blocking cards, accounts, or digital banking access.

2. Report financial fraud immediately 📞
If money has been transferred without your authorisation, call 1930 as soon as possible and submit a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

3. Secure your UPI 🔐

  • Change your UPI PIN through the official banking/UPI application.
  • Never share your UPI PIN, OTP, password or card details.
  • If you suspect your phone or SIM has been compromised, contact your telecom provider and bank.
  • Remove unfamiliar or suspicious apps from your device.

4. Check your bank account 💳
Look for:

  • Unauthorised UPI transactions
  • Unknown beneficiaries
  • Unexpected mandates/autopay instructions
  • New payment requests
  • Changes to your account or contact details

5. Preserve evidence 📸
Save transaction IDs/UTRs, screenshots, SMS alerts, WhatsApp chats, phone numbers, QR codes, payment requests and complaint/reference numbers.

⚠️ Remember

Receiving a UPI payment request does NOT mean you need to approve it.

And you do not need to enter your UPI PIN to receive money. Your PIN is generally used to authorise a payment.

🚫 Don’t make the situation worse

Never allow a caller claiming to be from your bank, police, RBI or a payment company to:

❌ Ask for your UPI PIN
❌ Ask for an OTP
❌ Ask you to install remote-access software
❌ Ask you to transfer money to a “safe account”
❌ Ask you to scan a QR code to “receive” a refund

STOP → SECURE → REPORT → PRESERVE EVIDENCE

If you have already lost money, speed matters. Contact your bank and 1930 immediately.
